Save the date for a Community Safety Council meeting on Jan. 30

The Community Safety Council (CSC) has organized a special meeting to update and inform York faculty, staff and students about safety initiatives that are underway. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 2:30 to 4:30pm in Curtis Lecture Hall “I”, located on the third floor of the Curtis Lecture Hall Building on the  Keele campus.

During the President’s Forum on Campus Safety held on Nov. 29, 2012, University community members expressed a desire to learn more about the CSC and its priorities. The meeting on Jan. 30 will provide an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to learn more about the council’s work and serves as a venue to introduce the council’s mandate and membership.

The meeting also marks the launch of York University's safety awareness campaign, Safer Together, which represents our commitment to building a safer campus and community together. The objective of the safety campaign is to foster continued and shared engagement in community safety. The campaign will raise awareness of tools, resources, and services available to the York community, as well as include educational components to support the community as it aims to prioritize value and respect for all of its members.

The initial phase of the campaign is the introduction of the new safety app, one part of the comprehensive safety awareness campaign. The free app will be available for community members to download onto their smartphones and tablets. Designed for York students, faculty and staff, the app provides a one-stop access to all of the University’s safety resources, including a direct call to campus security and key student safety services such as goSafe, the Campus Shuttle, and other important safety information.
