Third-year Juris Doctor student Cory Rubin served on Tuesday, Feb. 12 as Osgoode’s Dean for a Day.
This year’s Dean for a Day essay contest elicited a total of six excellent submissions and Rubin’s winning essay (attached) was deemed the best overall by the judges, Associate Dean James Stribopoulos and Mya Bulwa, assistant dean, students.

Osgoode Dean Lorne Sossin vacated his office for the day to make way for Rubin who had a series of meetings booked with respect to his essay’s focus on feedback and fairness in the exam process, and enhancing the academic experience. Rubin also had “a working lunch” with two friends at the Schulich dining room and received a pair of tickets to Rihanna on March 19 at the Air Canada Centre. “I am very honoured and grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts and explore the topic further with other students,” Rubin said.
Rubin is from Thornhill, Ontario. He transferred to Osgoode after spending first year in the Dual JD program at the University of Windsor. Next fall, he will be articling with Genest Murray LLP. During his time at Osgoode, he has been the teaching assistant for Professor Fred Zemans and a research assistant for Professor Shelley Gavigan. Last year, he participated in the International Mediation and Advocacy Competition in Chicago, and was an executive member on the Entertainment and Sports Law Association. In 2009, he graduated from Western University with an Honours Degree in Political Science.
Outside of law school, he is very interested in both sports and the sports industry. He currently volunteers as a coach in the City of Vaughan Hockey Association and in his spare time he plays intramural hockey at York as a goalie.
