Peter Cribb, senior lecturer in computer science, has been reappointed as associate dean, students, for the Faculty of Science. His reappointment is for a one-year term, effective July 1. Cribb has served as the associate dean for students since 2009 and has made extensive contributions, proving to be an integral part in the normal operations of the Faculty.

“I am delighted that Dr. Cribb has agreed to continue to serve the Faculty in this capacity,” says Don Hastie, interim dean, Faculty of Science. “He shares with me a common desire to contribute to the continuing development and growth of the Faculty of Science.”

Cribb’s York career spans over two decades, starting in 1986 in the Faculty of Arts as a sessional assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, undergraduate program director and then Chair, and most recently as associate dean, students, for the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Sylvie Morin has accepted the role of associate dean, faculty, in the Faculty of Science. Her appointment is effective immediately and will continue until June 30, 2014.

Morin is a professor in York’s Department of Chemistry and held a Canada Research Chair in Surface & Interfacial Electrochemistry from 2001 to 2010. During that time, she established a facility for the preparation and characterization of thin film materials after receiving two sizable Canada Foundation for Innovation grants.

“It is with great pleasure that I take on the role as associate dean, faculty,” says Morin. “I look forward to building on the foundation that Dr. Hastie established while in this position, by working together with the talented and highly successful professors in the Faculty of Science.”

As associate dean, faculty, Morin will provide leadership and direction for faculty-related matters including coordination of resources, opportunities and mentorship.

Prior to joining York University in 1999, Morin worked at the University of Ulm in Germany as a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, then in Ottawa at the National Research Council’s Steacie Institute for Molecular Research as a research associate. She received her PhD in chemistry from the University of Ottawa.

Her current research interests include surface science, thin film research and the preparation and characterization of novel materials and devices. Her research is highly collaborative and interfaces with biology and physics.

Morin replaces Hastie, who is currently serving as interim dean for the Faculty of Science.
