Isabelle Blain, NSERC vice-president of research grants & scholarships, met with researchers, administrators and students July 10 to discuss and seek input and provide information on recent programs and policy developments.
Blain discussed the changes and updates to the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada’s (NSERC) version of the Canadian Common CV (CCV), launched in April, and the new Research Portal, which will be phased in gradually by NSERC and consist of an “end-to-end system” used by applicants, reviewers, committee members, institutions and partners.

Blain also discussed the harmonization of the Canada Graduate Scholarships, proposed changes to the post-doctoral fellowship timelines, the steps NSERC has taken as part of a five-year evaluation of the Discovery Grants Program and the allocation of Discovery Grants Budget among evaluation groups.
“The forum provided the York community with an opportunity provide feedback about the important policy and program developments at NSERC and to learn more about how these changes will affect researchers, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows seeking funding from NSERC,” said Robert Haché, York’s vice-president research & innovation.
More than 40 members of the York community attended the forum and provided feedback on moving the deadline for submission of post-doctoral fellowships; whether institutions should set-up centralized internal review processes for Canada Graduate Scholarships; potential changes to funding levels for doctoral awards; and more.
