Meaning of masculinity in Latin America and around the globe

What is the meaning of masculinity? Three well-known thinkers, writers and activists will discuss the different ways masculinity is experienced in Latin America and other parts of the world, today and in the past.

Masculinity in Latin America and Beyond will take place Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30pm at Accents Books, 1790 Eglinton Ave. W., MasulinityPosterToronto. The panel discussion will be in Spanish with English translation provided.

The panel discussion will feature history scholar Julio César González Pagés of the University of Havana, coordinator of the Red Iberoamericana y Africana de Masculinidades and author of Por andar vestidade hombre, and Macho, varón, masculine.

Also on the panel will be York University history Professor Anne Rubenstein, co-editor of Masculinity and Sexuality in Modern Mexico, and Michael Kaufman, educator, co-founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, and author of The Possibility of Dreaming on a Night Without Stars, The Guy’s Guide to Feminism.

The event is cosponsored by the Centre for Research on Latin America & the Caribbean (CERLAC ) at York University. Pagés visit to Canada is sponsored by the Queen’s University Vice-Provost (International) Office and the Queen’s Program in Cultural Studies. The discussion is presented by Accents Books.
