New training sessions available for Emergency Response Wardens

The Emergency Response Warden Program was established to ensure the safe and prompt evacuation of staff, faculty and students from designated areas during emergencies and drills.

New training sessions for volunteer wardens are now available.  Training sessions are three hours long and include:

  • An overview of Emergency Preparedness at York University;
  • identification of roles and responsibilities;
  • a review of applicable legislation;
  • discussion of unit-specific Emergency Preparedness Sub Plans; and,
  • a review of best practices for building evacuations.

All training sessions are held from 1pm to 4pm in Room 213 of the William Small Centre.  Light refreshments are also provided.  A minimum of 15 people are required for each session.

If you are currently an emergency response warden, building emergency captain or emergency preparedness coordinator and it has been over one year since your last training session, it is important for you to register for an upcoming session as part of the ongoing refresher training for the program.

If you would like to volunteer to be an emergency response warden or building emergency captain, contact your unit’s emergency preparedness coordinator or your direct supervisor or manager.

To register for training, you must obtain approval from your direct supervisor or manager and complete the training request form.  All requests for training should be sent via e-mail to the Office of Emergency Preparedness at epp@yorku.ca.
