Vanier College Productions will present its newest show – Legally Blonde: The Musical – starting Jan. 10.
Legally Blonde: The Musical will run Thursday to Saturday at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, until Jan. 26 at the Fred Thury Studio Theatre, 258 Vanier College, Keele campus.
Based on the movie of the same name, it stays true to form with a peppy score and playful book by Heather Hach. Music and lyrics are by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. It is billed as a musical that is ridiculously enjoyable from start to finish.
Elle Woods (Alex Cairns) appears to have it all but her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner (Christopher Bartlett) dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law School. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to get into Harvard Law School. With the help of Paulette (Rebecca Zehr) and Emmett (Mike Wisniowski), she quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.
The production is based on the 2001 novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the 2004 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
Legally Blonde: The Musical is directed by Theresa Noon with assistant direction by Mike Wisniowski. Music direction is by Brian Goldenberg and choreography by Katie Edwards.
