Schulich ranked number one in Canada and 21st in world

The Schulich School of Business at York University was ranked number one in Canada and 21st in the world in a global MBA survey conducted by Expansión magazine, a Time Warner business publication based in Mexico City.

This marks the eighth straight year that Schulich has participated in the Expansión ranking, and the eighth straight year in which the School has been ranked number one in Canada and among the world’s top 25 business schools. No other Canadian business schools were ranked among the top 50.

In placing 21st overall, Schulich finished just behind Kellogg (20th) and Cornell (19th), and ahead of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia (22nd), the Stern School of Business at New York University (23rd), UCLA (24th) and the University of Michigan (25th).

Schulich placed ninth among business schools outside the United States and 13th among business schools in North America. Harvard finished first overall, with Stanford taking second spot and MIT placing third.

Other ranking highlights:

  • Schulich ranked fourth in the world in the category of salary percentage increase, with the school’s MBA students posting a 131 per cent average salary increase following graduation. Among the top 25 schools in the world, Schulich was ranked second in the salary percentage increase category.
  • Schulich ranked nineth in the world in terms of the international scope of its student population (as measured by countries of origin), with students coming from 54 countries.

The Expansión “Best Global MBAs” ranking, established in 2006, is the premier global survey conducted by a Latin American business publication. The survey rates leading MBA programs from around the world using a broad range of criteria, including academic quality, return on investment and global value. The survey employs a predominantly statistical-based methodology to rank business schools, with points awarded in key areas of measurement such as international scope and orientation, average GMAT, post-MBA average salary, average salary percentage increase and faculty research output.

“We’re pleased to have once again been rated by a major global survey as one of the top 25 business schools in the world,” said Schulich Dean Dezsö J. Horváth, who noted that Schulich has also been ranked among the top 15 schools in North America and among the top 10 schools outside the US by a number of major global surveys during the past eight months.

“The Expansión results mark the eighth time this academic year that one of Schulich’s MBA or EMBA programs has been ranked number one in Canada and among the world’s leading schools – and in two of those surveys Schulich was ranked number one in the world.”

In addition to the Expansión ranking, Schulich’s MBA program was ranked:

  • number one in Canada and 22nd in the world by The Economist;
  • number one in Canada and 10th among non-US two-year MBA programs by Forbes;
  • number one in the world among programs incorporating social, environmental and social leadership by Corporate Knights;
  • number one in Canada by Canadian Business; and
  • number one in Canada by MBA50.com.

The Kellogg-Schulich EMBA program was ranked:

  • number one in the world by The Economist; and
  • number one in Canada and 26th in the world by the Financial Times of London.

Schulich opened a satellite centre in Mexico City in late 2011 to help recruit students, provide career placement services to alumni, offer executive education programs, support the local Schulich alumni chapter and manage local media relations. Schulich opened a second Latin American satellite centre in São Paulo, Brazil, in early 2012. In addition to Mexico City and São Paulo, the school operates four other satellite centres around the world, including Beijing and Shanghai, China; Mumbai, India; and Seoul, South Korea.
