York University's 2013 Statistical Employment Equity Report is now available

The 2013 Statistical Employment Equity Report for York University is now available for review.

The report highlights a statistical summary of the representation of the four designated groups: women, visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities.

At an aggregate level across all employee groups, the report shows that University wide, York continues to enjoy a strong representation of women employees. Trends for the past three years show a high representation of women in the roles of senior managers, managers and professionals, as well as in clerical and administrative positions. Initiatives are in place to assist with hiring of women into non-traditional staff roles, including community outreach.

Other important initiatives noted in the report include: the implementation of the provisions and protocol for gender-based name changes and changes in identified sex; and a conference to be held in October addressing topics relating to the recruitment, support and retention of Aboriginal scholars (announcements about the conference will appear soon in YFile).

The University will be exploring other ways to support and strengthen inclusivity and diversity in the upcoming academic year, says Annette Boodram, diversity and inclusion consultant. Boodram encourages employees to take a moment to complete the University’s self-identification survey if they have not yet done so, or if their responses to the survey have changed (for example, a disability has emerged since completion of the survey).
