Members of the York University Lions women’s rugby team took time out of their busy schedules last weekend to volunteer at the CIBC Run for the Cure event in Toronto on Sunday, Oct. 5.
One day after clinching a playoff spot in the Ontario University Athletics Russell Division with a 29-20 victory over the Trent University Excalibur, the squad headed downtown to volunteer in a number of different areas, including helping organizers at the start/finish line and supplying drinks and snacks to participants.
The Lions women’s rugby team has been assisting at the event for a number of years now as part of their participation in a wide range of community service projects.
“I’m proud of my team for once again stepping up and volunteering at the Run for the Cure event,” said Head Coach Joe Costello. “Our rugby program continues to commit to making a positive impact on, and being leaders in, the community around them and helping out whenever they can.”
The Lions will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 10 when they travel to Kingston, Ont., to face the Queen’s University Gaels in the first round of the playoffs. The match is set to begin at 5pm.
