The No. 2 nationally ranked York University Lions men’s soccer team expand its winning streak to 12 in a row after a 4-0 victory over the University of Waterloo Warriors on Sunday.
With the win, the Lions clinched first place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Division standings for the eighth straight year and have secured a first round bye in the playoffs.

Women’s rugby Lions eliminated from playoffs with loss to Queen’s
The York University Lions women’s rugby team was defeated by a score of 41-21 in its Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarter-final match against the Queen's University Gaels at Nixon Field in Kingston, Ont., on Friday night.
Queen's opened the scoring early with a try by Miranda Seifert just three minutes into a tight first half, her first of three on the night, and Karley Heyman made the score 10-0 for the Gaels. But the Lions battled back on a try by Emma Jada in the 20th minute and a successful conversion by Catherine Belanger that made the score 10-7. More details.
Women’s soccer Lions top Warriors by a slim margin
Aisha Lewis scored the only goal as the York University Lions women's soccer team won 1-0 against the University of Waterloo Warriors on Sunday.
The Lions take their record to 11-1-2 with the win. They now lead the OUA West Division with 35 points with the Western University Mustangs trailing by just one point in second place.
Despite a blistering start, neither team was able to score in the opening minutes. Nour Ghoneim made two shots within ten minutes, both of which were saved by Warriors goalkeeper Lesia Bandura. More details.
Smoskowitz nets a hat trick in men’s hockey win over Thunderwolves
The York University Lions men's hockey team took a 6-4 victory over the Lakehead University Thunderwolves with a natural hat trick from rookie Dylan Smoskowitz on Friday in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Smoskowitz scored a pair of goals in 2:03 late in the first period to erase a 2-0 deficit, and he added his third just 20 seconds into the second period to give the Lions their first lead of the game. More details.
The next night, the Lions fell by a score of 4-1 to the Thunderwolves in the second game of their weekend doubleheader. Similar to the previous game, the Thunderwolves took the lead with Jay Gilbert scoring a power play goal at 8:45 in the first period.
At 14:30 on the first period Ryan Magill scored a goal to add another point to the score board for the Thunderwolves, giving them a 2-0 lead after one period of play. More details.
Women’s hockey Lions take down Badgers for first win of season
The York University Lions women's hockey team gained its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over the Brock University Badgers on Sunday in St. Catharines, Ont.
The Lions did not waste any time controlling the game with an early goal in 4:02. Lisa Stathopulos scored with an assist by Kristen Barbara. Rookie defender Caitlin Lee scored 5:41 into the first period, the first goal of her career that stood up as the game winner. More details.
The previous day, the Lions were defeated by the University of Guelph Gryphons by a 3-1 score in their season opener. The Lions were able to open up the scoring with a goal by Tonisha Maisonneuve and an assist from Dana Somerville at 7:28 of the first period.
The Gryphons did not let the Lions take the lead for very long, however, as Averi Nooren scored a power play goal at 9:07 to even the score at 1-1. More details.
