York U student group organizes event to target extremism

A York University Muslim student group is launching a campaign to end misconceptions about Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Students’ Association (AMSA) is hosting “Stop the CrISIS” an educational panel that will take place Nov. 13 at 6pm at York University’s Keele campus. “Stop the CrISIS” is aimed at educating young people about radicalization and the dangers of extremist views and to provide a counter narrative.

The event’s organizer is Jari Qudrat, who is president of AMSA. He says the student cub has put together an interesting group of speakers who will bring a number of unique perspectives to Islam. Qudrat was interviewed about “Stop the CrISIS” on Nov. 12 by Metro Morning host Matt Galloway. Click here to listen to the full interview.

The event will be held on Nov. 13 6pm in Curtis Lecture Hall I and L. It has been moved from Vari Hall-A to accommodate the number of students who have expressed interest in attending.

All are welcome but organizers request that those interested should RSVP using the form on the AMSA Facebook page..
