More than three weeks has gone by since the start of the 2014 York Cares Campaign in support of the United Way Toronto – and the University has raised more than 74 per cent of its final fundraising goal. To date, a total of $150,000 has been raised by six per cent of the York University community.

This year’s campaign will wrap up on Dec. 5, with the additional week provided to help York University surpass its 10 per cent participation goal. The online tool will remain open for those who still wish to pledge until Dec. 31.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the Schulich French Toast Campaign Breakfast, which took place in Schulich Private Dining Room in the Seymour Schulich Building on the Keele campus. Staff and faculty members attended the event and took part in a delicious French toast breakfast, each piece topped off with icing sugar designs in the shape of Schulich’s logo.

York’s President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shourki shared his praise for the contributions that York’s staff and faculty community have already made towards the 2014 York Cares Campaign and reflected on the impact that this annual fundraising project can have for communities in need.

“Once again, York has demonstrated our commitment to creating a vibrant, healthy and safe community, both on campus and in our surrounding communities,” Shoukri said. “As we know, our University works to instill a strong sense of social responsibility in our students, so it is important that we, as staff and faculty, also live up to these expectations and do our part to make positive change in the community.”

With this campaign extension, there is also still time for donors to take advantage of this year’s participation prizes. All donors who support the 2014 York Cares Campaign by making a donation via the online tool or a pledge card will be entered into participation draws for great prizes, including the following:

• Samsung eight-inch Tab S;
• Scosche RhythmPulse Heart Rate Monitor (donated by Data Integrity);
• Three sets of Toronto Raptors basketball tickets (donated by MBNA); and
• $100 Home Depot gift card (donated by TD Insurance Meloche Monnex).
