Poet, novelist, philosopher and York English Professor B.W. Powe will deliver the next Canada Speaks lecture on “Marshall McLuhan, Northrop Frye and Pierre Trudeau: A Visionary Tradition in Canada”.
The talk will take place Thursday, Feb. 5, from 12:30 to 1:30pm, in the Senior Common Room, 010 Vanier College, Keele campus. Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
The Canada Speaks lecture series is presented by the Canadian Studies Program in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies at York.
Powe is the author of the recently published Marshall McLuhan and Northrop Frye:
Apocalypse and Alchemy (University of Toronto Press).
The Toronto Star has called him “one of Canada’s leading cultural commentators”. Philip Marchand of the National Post, wrote: “No one will ever write with such passion as Powe’s on the vision of these two beleagured spiritual explorers, Frye and McLuhan, and their permanent importance.”
Powe is the author of several books, including Towards a Canada of Light (Thomas Allen, 2006) and Mystic Trudeau: The Fire and The Rose (Thomas Allen, 2007).
