Ryan Robski, a second-year student in the Juris Doctor Program, has been chosen to be Osgoode Hall Law School’s 2015 Dean for a Day.

Due to the labour disruption at York University, Robski was not able to take over the Dean’s Office on March 5 as Dean for a Day as originally planned. Together with Osgoode Dean Lorne Sossin, the duo decided to forego trading places. Instead, Robski’s winning essay will be published in an upcoming issue of Obiter Dicta. A short video interview with “Dean Robski” will also be posted on Osgoode’s YouTube channel.

“Ryan is a dedicated and passionate student whose interests run the gamut from politics and business to reading and sports,” Sossin said in announcing to the Osgoode community on March 16 that Robski had won the 2015 Dean for a Day contest. “Ryan grew up in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, and attended Mount Allison University where he received a BSc (Hons.) and Dalhousie University where he obtained his MSc. At both universities as well as at Osgoode, Ryan has enjoyed being involved with student government. He is currently Vice-Chair of Osgoode Student Caucus, a Dean’s Fellow, and a Passy Fellow at Osgoode Chambers.”

Sossin added that Robski’s essay about enhancing the openness of Osgoode and making it more accessible to our community and those around us “resonated with the contest judges – and with me.”

The Dean for a Day contest continues a tradition originally established by former Osgoode Hall Law School Dean Harry Arthurs. The contest winner serves as Dean of Osgoode for a day while Osgoode Dean Lorne Sossin attends the student’s classes.

This year’s contest participants were required to submit a written essay or a short video on the following topic: “If you were Dean of Osgoode, what new ideas would you pursue to build on Osgoode’s 125-year legacy in diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility?”
