York expertise at Toronto Pan Am/Parapan Am Sports Medicine Congress

York University alumni, students and faculty will lead sessions on everything from field of play emergency care to athletic taping at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Sports Medicine Congress.

Sports Medicine Congress posterThe three-day conference, taking place April 16 to 18, is designed to leverage the immense medical expertise gathering for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games this summer. As such, it will provide information and training for the Toronto 2015 medical team and health-care providers – physicians, athletic therapists, physiotherapists, massage therapists and chiropractors – from all of the Pan American countries that will be participating in the Games.

Speakers will hail from around the world, including members of the Pan American Sports Organization medical commission, the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine medical commission and the International Paralympic Committee medical committee, as well as local and international experts, including some from York University.

Professor Frances Flint, founder and former coordinator of the Athletic Therapy Certificate program, will be the lead presenter for the advanced levels of field of play management of sport injury.

York alumnus Steve Lidstone, who graduated from York’s School of Kinesiology & Health Science and the Athletic Therapy Certificate program, will lead a session titled “Complete Care: Exercise – the Underutilized Modality.” Lidstone is now a strength and conditioning coach and athletic therapist at McMaster University.
