“Great science starts here.” That is the motto of the Helix Summer Science Institute, a special program offered by the Faculty of Science at York University.
Helix is a summer program held in the Life Sciences Building on York University’s Keele campus, offering weekly courses between July 6 and July 31 that are designed for students in Grades 9 to 12 who have a passion for the sciences.
Helix courses are taught by experienced faculty and draw from the Faculty of Science research expertise and areas of strength. Students gain exposure to topics that often are not studied until the third and fourth years of university.
Students can sign up for one or multiple weeks in one or multiple streams. The Helix Summer Science Institute offers high school students an excellent opportunity to experience subjects in-depth and to get a sense of what areas of science really appeal to them. This year, students are able to choose from the following streams: Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Physics & Astronomy, Mini-Med School and Applied Mathematics.
They can also choose from a wide selection of courses within each stream. Some of the courses offered include: the Fundamentals of Neuroscience; Weird Universe; Amusement Park Physics; and Contagion: Simulating Outbreaks and the Spread of Disease.
Registration is now open but space is limited.
