The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), an international professional organization devoted to fostering postsecondary education, has named York University a silver award winner of its 2015 Circle of Excellence awards program. York was recognized for the Faculty of Science’s promotional video.
A panel of experts selected the institution’s entry in the short video category out of 117 entries from around the world. The General Information Videos – Short Videos category is among the most competitive of the CASE awards, and this is York’s first win on the international stage for its communications and marketing efforts.
Led by Suzana Pinto, communications manager for the Faculty of Science, the science promotional video is a 40-second glimpse of the science happening at York. “The intent of the video is to inspire and motivate viewers to learn more,” says Pinto. “There is great science happening at York, and I wanted to capture that, as best I could in 40 seconds.”
And the judges agreed, commenting, “This is short, but prompted panelists to want to find out more about this school that actually allowed students to explore a career in such a hands-on fashion in such a sophisticated, expensive and inspiring location. It seemed to say – these are serious students and this would be a serious opportunity, and provoked a ‘where is this place? I need to know more!’”
“Congratulations to Suzana Pinto on this terrific recognition,” says Faculty of Science Dean Ray Jayawardhana. “It is a wonderful testament to her talents. The Faculty of Science and York benefit enormously from her creative flair and hard work.”
Earlier this year, Pinto and the Faculty of Science were also honoured with CASE District II awards: gold for their faculty profile series and silver for their promotional science video. CASE District II is a subset of the international association and is the largest of the eight districts.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is one of the largest international associations of education institutions, serving more than 3,600 universities, colleges, schools and related organizations in more than 80 countries.
