The event provides students, postdoctoral Fellows and faculty an opportunity to further their careers by learning about research, publishing, networking, career development and science communications, as well as the chance to engage with leading professionals in chemistry, including:

  • Robin Rogers, editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed journal Crystal Growth & Design;
  • Ranjini Prithviraj, managing editor of ACS Synthetic Biology, the journal of the American Chemical Society;
  • Nancy Jenson, program manager of the ACS Petroleum Research Fund; and
  • Shannon O’Reilly, program associate of the ACS on Campus initiative.

“The chemistry department is very excited to bring this event to York University,” says Professor Gino Lavoie, the graduate program director for the Department of Chemistry. “While the workshop is sponsored by the American Chemical Society, the program will be of interest to those in the Faculty of Science and other Faculties across the University. Topics will include effective writing of journal articles and grant proposals, copyright issues and ethics, and the science of networking. This is a golden opportunity for everyone to gain insights from experts in those fields.”

The event will run from 9am to 4:30pm, and it includes breakfast and a networking lunch and reception (both events are free of charge). Space is limited and those interested should register online as soon as possible. The location is the Founders College College Assembly Hall, 152 Founders College, Keele campus.

ACS on Campus is an international program that provides tips and resources to many postsecondary institutions around the world, allowing scientists, both established and aspiring, to gain skills that will lead them to successful careers in chemistry.
