The Harriet Lewis FUNd committee, in partnership with York University Athletics & Recreation, invites faculty, staff, students, retirees and alumni to experience Pan.de.mo.ni.um in the stadium on Monday, Sept. 21, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
Members of the York community are invited to visit the new York Lions Stadium (formerly the Toronto 2015 CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Stadium). The Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games catapulted this spectacular stadium and York University into the global spotlight, and highlighted the University’s diverse and energetic community to the world. The stadium has been transferred to the University and the committee has organized this special event as a way to welcome the University community to this impressive facility.
At this entertaining and fun lunchtime event, visitors will be treated to the vibrant sounds of the Samba Squad, free popcorn and give-aways (to the first 100 people who attend the event).
Everyone will have an opportunity to compare their athletic prowess to the international athletes who competed in the stadium. Not in the mood to run the track? Why not bring your lunch and enjoy the last of the summer’s warmth. Walk the field, sit in the stands and cheer on colleagues and community members who are competing with each other in 100-metre and long jump events. The York Mascots will also be in attendance and available for photos.
This special event is being made possible by former University secretary and general counsel Harriet Lewis, along with the Athletics & Recreation Division. It will be the first in a number of events for the York University community. The Harriet Lewis FUNd was established through a gift made by Lewis to the University community when she retired.
Employees are encouraged to attend during their normal scheduled lunch period, if time permits, to check out the new stadium.
The York Lions Stadium is a multimillion dollar Tier 1 Track & Field facility that is a legacy of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.
