Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Haché officially launched a series of community consultations to develop a Plan for the Intensification and Enhancement of Research (PIER) for the University at an open forum held last Wednesday at the Keele campus.
The community consultations are an important part of the consultation process to develop the PIER. More than 70 members of the York community attended the open forum to discuss the development of a plan that will seek to provide an operational framework in support of the University Academic Plan and the Strategic Research Plan. PIER will also support the institutional integrated resources planning process aimed at promoting research intensification broadly across the institution at the level of the individual professor, department and within a Faculty. The open forum provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about the consultation process and the goals for the plan.
In addition, there was a lively, open and engaging discussion that saw participants share their thoughts about research intensification at York. Among the comments offered by those present at the open forum included the articulation of a need to develop a strategy that empowers researchers by providing them with appropriate opportunities to focus their attention on research. Many of those welcomed the need for a plan that sets an effective framework towards the continued research growth and strength of both faculty members and graduate students in further intensifying and enhancing the institution’s research.
“York’s Plan for the Intensification & Enhancement of Research will help us achieve our vision of how we can achieve more as an institution and help York University move further ahead in research excellence and scholarship,” said Haché.
He explained that the goals of the consultation process are to engage the York community in an open, collaborative and ongoing discussion to develop a plan that is meaningful to the community.
Haché was joined in the open forum by members of the PIER Working Group.
As part of the ongoing consultation process, York students, staff and faculty are invited to continue the discussion with Haché through upcoming community workshops. The workshops will focus on a more in-depth discussion to examine the goals and objectives that will help shape the continued progress of York’s research intensification.
