The No. 4 nationally ranked York University Lions women’s soccer team added another win to its unbeaten record this season with a 2-0 win over the University of Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions hold an Ontario University Athletics (OUA)-best 9-0-1 record and are now the only team in the OUA West Division with an undefeated record on the season.
Opening the game with clinical possessive play that kept the Gryphons chasing, the Lions were dominant in every area of the pitch. The creativity paid off in the 20th minute when Nour Ghoneim released Sarah Wong into the technical area to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Ghoneim flicked the ball into the path of Wong’s darting run past the Gryphons’ back four, which gave Wong enough time to tuck the ball into the near post. More details on York Lions website.
