More than 200 passionate MBA candidates converged at the Schulich School of Business for its biannual open house, Experience Schulich, on Nov. 21.
The day opened with a networking breakfast, where attendees chatted over coffee with members of Schulich’s admissions and student services team, as well as with current students who also led guided tours of the building.
The event offered an opportunity for candidates to meet other prospective students and to familiarize themselves with the student experience and the application process.
Following the networking session, Ashwin Joshi, director of the MBA program, delivered a keynote address exploring the topic of “The Transformed World of Business.”
Joshi shed light on the importance of agile management in today’s increasingly global, technologically driven economy. Citing transformative trends from experiential retail to mobile FinTech to re-conceptualizing corporate social responsibility, he drew connections to the ways Schulich’s curriculum, initiatives and faculty innovate to keep apace.
Throughout the day, mini-lectures hosted by faculty provided rich insights and glimpses into the discursive, exploratory atmosphere in Schulich’s classrooms. It included talks on marketing analytics, real estate, sustainable business and strategic thinking, featuring Andre Kuzmicki, Murat Kristal and Andrew Crane, just to name a few.
A luncheon followed, giving attendees the chance to network in an informal atmosphere with faculty and current students in their fields of interest. Hosted in Schulich’s Executive Dining Room, this luncheon was a unique experience for all in attendance.
Schulich’s Career Development Centre opened the afternoon with an alumni panel featuring successful former Schulich students from a variety of disciplines. Melissa Boward (RBC), Sid Kurian (Accenture), Jenise Lee (CertClean) and Sarah Tron (J&J) spoke freely and warmly about their career trajectories, student experience and the return on investment of their degrees.
A final series of mini-sessions focused on Schulich’s international opportunities, capital markets, the future of marketing, mergers and acquisitions, led by Lorna Wright, Gordon Roberts, Markus Giesler and Graeme Deans.
As attendees retreated to the Executive Dining Room for a final wine and cheese reception to close the day, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Staff and faculty look forward to welcoming back many of the guests as they advance through the admissions and enrolment process and become lifelong members of the Schulich community.
Those who were unable to attend the open house, or would like more information, can register for a pre-admission appointment or RSVP to an upcoming event.
