The next instalment of the Canadian Writers in Person Lecture Series will take place on Feb. 9 and feature author Colin McAdam. The event runs from 7 to 10pm at 206 Accolade West Building.
McAdam is an award-winning author who has published three novels to much acclaim. His most recent novel, A Beautiful Truth, will be the focus of the Feb. 9 event at York University.
The novel explores the themes of love, loss, parenthood, friendship and strength in an unexpected way – the story is told simultaneously from the perspective of humans and chimpanzees. It looks at the truths of life that transcend species, and explores the capacity for love and survival.
A Beautiful Truth won the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize.
McAdam’s debut novel Some Great Thing, was a finalist for the same prize years earlier. That novel was also earned the Books in Canada First Novel Award and was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for English language fiction, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize.
His second novel, Fall, won the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
McAdam is also recognized for his contributions to both Harper’s Magazine and The Walrus.
He studied English and classics at McGill University and the University of Toronto, and later earned a PhD in philosophy (in English literature) from the University of Cambridge.
McAdam currently resides in Toronto.
The Canadian Writers in Person Lecture Series, presented by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LAPS), brings Canadian writers to campus for an up-close and personal event.
