The MES-York Planning Alumni Committee (MYPAC) will host the second instalment of the MYPAC Speaker Series on March 2 when it brings in Jason Bevan (MES ’06) and Russell Mathew of Hemson Consulting Ltd. to talk about demographics, economics and how they relate to regional planning.
The event titled “Why demographics and land economics are vital for understanding planning in the Greater Golden Horseshoe” runs from 12:30 to 2:30pm in HNES 142.
This session will explain how demographic and economic factors complement, and contradict, regional planning objectives. Specifically, the presenters will demonstrate how the basic economic principals of supply and demand guide development patterns across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
Mathew is a partner at Hemson Consulting Ltd. with over 30 years of professional planning experience, with particular expertise in the areas of demographic and economic forecasting and land economics. He has developed forecasting methods used by numerous municipalities and regions across Canada and is perhaps best known for preparing the Growth Outlook for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, including subsequent updates, utilized in the provincial Growth Plan.
Bevan is a senior consultant at Hemson Consulting Ltd. with over 10 years of planning experience. Much of his work is focused on the cost of providing municipal services and the associated funding requirements. In this regard, Bevan has prepared numerous development charges and fiscal impact studies for municipalities across Canada. He is also a graduate of the MES planning program.
Light refreshments will be served. For more, or to sign up to attend, visit fes.yorku.ca/events/mypacss.
