An independent, non-profit, student-run journal of critical environmental studies produced in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University will celebrate a milestone on April 15 with a special event.
UnderCurrents marked 20 years since the publication of Vol. 6 "Queer/Nature" with a special issue, Vol. 19 "From Queer/Nature to Queer Ecologies: Celebrating 20 Years of Scholarship and Creativity." To celebrate the publication of Vol. 19, UnderCurrents is hosting a launch party on April 15 from 6 to 9pm at the Free Times Café, 320 College St. in Toronto.
UnderCurrents is a journal that publishes creative and critical writing and artwork that explores the relationships between environment, society and self.
This brand new publication features work from scholars and artists rooted both in Toronto and internationally, including: Goedele De Caluwé, Bambitchell, Naomi Booth, Cameron Butler, Mitch Goldsmith, David Griffiths, Fleurie Hunter, Anabel Khoo, Sarah May Lindsay, Jaimes Mayhew, Elana Santana, Marianna Szczygielska and Marion Wasserbauer.
Join the editorial collective at this event to hear readings from the issue, see special guests and get a sneak preview of the in-production Volume 20. There will be a very special launch of the co-produced (with CoHearence) podcast on the pasts, presents and futures of queer ecological scholarship featuring Brent Ingram, Peter Hobbs and Cate Sandilands in conversation with the UnderCurrents editorial collective.
The event is free and all ages. Food will be provided, and drinks will be available for purchase. Copies of the journal will be available at the event, or online at currents.journals.yorku.ca/index.php/currents.
