Four sites on the York University Keele campus and the York University Glendon campus will be featured in the lineup of of the 17th annual Doors Open Toronto event running Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29.
The event, which has a theme this year of “Re-used, Re-visited and Revised”, invites the public to explore buildings across the city that have architectural, historical, cultural and social significance. This year, more than 130 buildings will open their doors, giving rare and free access to the public.
Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence
Archives of Ontario
The Archives of Ontario will be featured in the category “Government/City-owned Building, Educational Institute Library or Archives, Built after 2000”. The facility opened in 2009 and was built in a contemporary style. It will be open to the public on May 28 from 10am to 4pm.
Members of the public will be invited to take a behind-the-scenes tour and watch a video presentation about the facility. There will be interactive spaces for learning more about the building designed to engage both adults and children.
Glendon Campus – Centre of Excellence
The Centre of Excellence on the Glendon campus will be featured in the category “Educational Institute Library or Archives, Built after 2000”. The facility opened in 2012 and was built in a contemporary style. It will be open to the public on May 28 and 29 from 10am to 5pm.
Members of the public will have access to tours that showcase the award-winning ‘glass box’ building at the campus’ entrance. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the leafy spaces surrounding the elegant glass cube.
Glendon Campus – Glendon Hall
Glendon Hall will be featured in the category “Educational Institute Library or Archives, Built 1900 – 1945”. The facility opened in 1924 and was built in the revival style; the original architect is unknown. It will be open to the public on May 28 and 29 from 10am to 5pm.
