Marisa Sterling, PEng, Lassonde’s Assistant Dean, Inclusivity & Diversity, received the Meritorious Service Award for Community Service at the Engineers Canada Awards Gala on Thursday, May 26.
The gala took place in Charlottetown, P.E.I., honouring the remarkable achievements of engineers, teams of engineers, engineering projects and engineering students.
These annual awards recognize engineering excellence and the winners’ outstanding contributions to their community, to their profession and to the safety and well-being of Canadians.
Sterling leads the Lassonde 50:50 Challenge to become the first engineering school in Canada to achieve gender balance.
She is currently also the president and chair at the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education, where she oversees over one million dollars in assets to fund annual scholarships for engineering students across all Ontario universities.
“Marisa Sterling is one of the most valuable members of the Lassonde School community,” said Janusz Kozinski, Founding dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering. “This recognition by Canada’s engineering profession is richly deserved.
“The Lassonde 50:50 Challenge is the school’s top priority, and we are fortunate to have such a well-respected leader at the helm,” he added.
