The McLaughlin College Lunch Talk Series continues on Oct. 12 with a presentation by Carla Lipsig-Mummé, professor of work and labour studies at York University.
The event, “Bridging the Solitudes: Activist Politics and the Academic Life. A Personal Reflection,” runs from noon to 1:30pm in 140 McLaughlin College (Senior Common Room).
Lipsig-Mummé began her working life as a union organizer of garment workers in San Francisco and New York, farmworkers with Cesar Chavez’ United Farmworkers Organizing Committee, and as a researcher for Québec’s CSQ.
She has been at York since 1990, and has also held professorships at Université Laval and Deakin University (Australia) and a Research Chair in Social and Political Inquiry at Monash University, as well as honorary positions in Russia and Australia.
Labour unions and social justice have been the focus of her research from the beginning. Without changing focus, her research now is on climate change, work and labour. Author of more than 200 works, she is series editor of the Routledge Studies in Climate, Work and Society.
