York Cares United Way Campaign deadline extended to Dec. 2

The annual York Cares United Way Campaign deadline has been extended to Dec. 2York cares

Each year, the York U community participates in the campaign and last year raised close to $185,000. This year’s goal is $200,000. The funds that are raised support social services in the community, some of which impact York U programs and students directly.

The United Way Toronto and York Region is the largest private-sector supporter of social services in Toronto. Its work is fueled by groundbreaking research and powerful partnerships, which allows it to identify gaps and responsibly mobilize volunteer and financial resources for the most direct impact: effecting positive and lasting change, right here where we all live, work and raise our families.

Special events to support the 2016 York Cares United Way Campaign took place across campus through the month of November. The final event is hosted by the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost. York University community members are invited to a soup and salad lunch on Friday, Nov. 25, from 12 to 1pm in the 9th Floor kitchen of the Kaneff Tower on the Keele campus. All proceeds from the lunch will go towards the United Way.

Of special note to University community members, The Mike & Martha Pedersen Challenge Grant matches donations of $1,200 or more towards United Way funded initiatives a dollar-for-dollar level. By contributing $1,200 or more, you can make twice the impact with your donation. Faculty and staff received a personalized online pledge by email and with the extension of the campaign deadline, every dollar counts. As of Nov. 22, the campaign had raised more than 60 per cent of its goal.
