Office of the University Registrar hosts staff curriculum fair 'OUR IMPACT'

Staff in the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) gathered together on March 10 to launch their very own curriculum as part of a year-long initiative aimed at living the cultural values expressed in the Division of Students' strategic plan.

With a focus on collaboration, every functional unit developed a learning experience for their colleagues, to showcase the work they do and how that work contributes to student success. The course offerings – modelled on the student learning experience – outline what will be taught, the experiential components of the course and the learning outcomes.

Each area or unit within OUR – Student Client Relations, Registrarial Services, Student Systems, Student Financial Services, Recruitment & Admissions – set up a themed booth featuring games and activities that illustrate what the unit does, to pique interest in their course offerings. Feedback from participants praised the interactivity and face-to-face interaction as a great way for teams to reflect on what they want others to know about their work, its challenges and value. The creativity and enthusiasm exceeded all expectations, and the enrolment sheets were full at every booth. Check out the fair’s Flickr feed at flic.kr/s/aHskWYQvQg.

OUR IMPACT was developed by staff, for staff, to foster knowledge of the work performed across the portfolio, to strengthen a sense of community and to highlight common purpose and pride. The program presents opportunities for any staff member to stretch beyond his or her own unit and learn more about a range of registrarial activities.

“One of the key objectives of the program is to stimulate innovation by creating space to discuss mutual service challenges between units,” said University Registrar Carol Altilia. “We want students to have a coherent experience and that requires seamless connections between functional areas.”

The OUR courses will begin in April (this month) and staff members are already discussing how the courses can be opened to colleagues across campus.
