Bike Month, an annual campaign encouraging commuters to cycle to work, kicks off Monday, May 29 and will run until June 30.
It is part of a GTHA-wide initiative with Smart Commute and municipal partners.
Hundreds of events are taking place across the region, including bike check-ups, foodie tours, workshops, and challenging group rides. Events are listed online at BikeMonth.ca.
Those participating can enter online by June 5 for a chance to win a MEC Midtown bicycle and a $300 VIA Rail voucher
Cycling is a great, healthy means of transportation that is known to:
• boost brain power – studies have shown that employees who cycle to work are more likely to be more successful at work as they are fitter, more alert and take fewer sick days;
• create happier employees – Smart Commute surveys continue to show that out of all commute choices, cyclists and walkers report the highest satisfaction; and,
• consider the environment – reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollution by taking a vehicle off the road.
