A lecture on Nov. 6 at York University will examine diversity in higher education, when Matthew Shenoda presents "Why Race? Why Now?: Focusing Diversity in Higher Education" at 2:30pm in 305 Founders College.
Shenoda is the dean of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, and also advisor to the president at Columbia College Chicago. He is a specialist on equity initiatives in higher education, as well as an award-winning poet, an editor and a founder of the African Poetry Book Fund.
Equity and inclusion are among the most pressing issues in higher education, and in our times. Shenoda will lead an informal yet wide-ranging discussion on anti-bias pedagogy, creative writing, editing, as well as small and university press publishing.
His lecture will be preceded by an informal talk with students at 11:30am, and a reception and book sale at 12:30pm. All events will take place at 305 Founders College.
The lecture is presented by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and Founders College, along with with the Faculties of Education and Environmental Studies. York University continues its leadership in the area of diversity and inclusion in higher education.
The event is open to the entire York University community, including educators, students, administrators and human resource professionals.
