York's top student-athletes honoured for academic achievement

York University's top academic student-athletes were honoured on Tuesday afternoon at the Department of Athletics & Recreation's annual Academic All-Canadian Luncheon.

York's student-athletes were recognized for academic achievements

The student-athletes, representing 25 Lions teams, were recognized for their achievements in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

Academic All-Canadian awards are given to U SPORTS student-athletes who achieve a sessional grade point average of 7.5 and higher, while Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Achievement Awards are for student-athletes on OUA teams who meet the same GPA standard.

Also honoured were the male and female student-athletes from both U SPORTS and OUA who had the highest sessional GPAs last year.

Receiving the U SPORTS awards were Tegan Duncan and Erran Lee from women's hockey and Malcolm Loukides from men's soccer. Ana Janic from women's tennis, Glen Katsnelson from men's tennis and John Lau from badminton received the top OUA awards.
