YorkFest, the annual extravaganza for York University students, will feature Machel Montano as this year’s headliner at a free Welcome Back evening concert on Thursday, Sept. 27.
A multifaceted artist, Montano is an award-winning Trinidadian soca singer and the front man of The HD Family band. The concert will also feature a performance by D.J. Lissa Monet, a Toronto-based artist and a rising star in the Canadian music scene.
In addition to the concert, approximately 10,000 people show up for YorkFest’s daytime village event showcasing some 200 of York’s services, student clubs and groups as well as off-campus companies, radio stations and more. Free food, York Federation of Students swag bags and other goodies are offered to visitors. The event features information on clubs, college resources, York services and more.
The YorkFest Village will take place along Campus Walk, from the Student Centre to the Arboretum Parking Garage, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, the day before the concert
Thousands of people attend the concert each year. The free concert is a closed event. York students from the Keele and Glendon Campuses will be able to attend with a valid YU Card. All ages are welcome.
The concert is held at the Aviva Centre, Keele Campus. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. YorkFest is presented by the York Federation of Students.
