Belcastro is one of seven inductees named this year.

Over five decades, Belcastro has inspired leadership among Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) members and contributed to initiatives that bridged academic discovery to exercise prescription guideline development supporting professional members’ scope of practice for prescribing exercise to Canadians.

In doing so, Belcastro has consistently facilitated CSEP’s mission by impacting the health of Canadian communities, said kinesiology and health science Professor Christopher Perry, a director at CSEP.

“As a tireless volunteer, Dr. Belcastro’s guidance and exceptional leadership qualities have not only served the society, but also inspired members to become more involved themselves. His long history of dynamic contribution and commitment makes Dr. Belcastro a worthy recipient of the distinction of CSEP Fellow.”

The award recognizes leaders in CSEP who have inspired research excellence in exercise physiology or made substantial contributions that bridged academic and professional members focused on the translation of advances in exercise science research into the promotion of fitness, performance and health outcomes for Canadians. The Fellow’s service is consistent with CSEP’s leadership in setting the highest standards for qualified exercise professionals through evidence-based practice and certification.
