Next Leadership Lab event features former FGS dean Barbara Crow

The Office of the Provost & Vice-President Academic cordially invites York community members to attend the next event in their new Leadership Lab series, titled “The Currency of Equality,” which will be held on Monday, Feb. 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Schulich Private Dining Room.

Barbara Crow

Barbara Crow

It will feature as keynote speaker Professor Barbara Crow, former dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University and now Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science at Queen’s University. She will be discussing the Bank of Canada project that led to the new $10 bill honouring Viola Desmond as an icon of social justice and the struggle for equality rights, based on her experience as a member of the Advisory Committee to the Minister of Finance for this project. (For more information about the project and Desmond, visit bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/vertical10/banknoteable-woman.)

Following Crow’s presentation, reflections will be offered by Professor Andrea Davis, Chair of the Department of Humanities in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, and Anesa Albert, executive assistant to the dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. After their reflections, there will be an opportunity for participants to mingle and talk informally. Refreshments will be provided and a cash bar will be available.

All faculty and staff members are welcome to participate, and there is no charge to attend; however, space is limited, so you are asked to RSVP at: tl.apps01.yorku.ca/machform/view.php?id=61577.

More about the Leadership Lab series

In November of 2017, the Office of the Provost & Vice-President Academic launched the Leadership Lab initiative, intended to bring together a diverse group of faculty and staff from across the University to share experiences and ideas, build community and create a strong network of people committed to helping each other grow as leaders.

Topics follow a general theme of breaking down barriers and promoting inclusive leadership. The events take place on campus in the late afternoon, with a short speaker program as well as time for informal conversation.
