The Association of Graduate Students in the Biological Sciences is hosting its 45th Annual Biology Symposium titled, “Communication In and Out of Academia,” April 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 103, Life Sciences Building at the Keele Campus.
The symposium is a full day of science, which is free and open to all members of the University community, it includes several workshops, a panel on gene editing, a graduate student poster session, and concludes with a networking event at Shopsy’s Restaurant in York Lanes.
At 10 a.m. the day begins with a presentation by science animator Steve Bryson. He will speak about molecular animation abstracts.
At 11 a.m., Marc Dupuis-Désormaux, a Postdoctoral Fellow at York University, will speak about Wildlife-Human Conflicts: Turning science into outcomes.
From 12 to 1:30 p.m. visitors will have an opportunity to view the graduate student poster section and meet the rising stars in biology research.
From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Technology and Ethics of Gene Editing panel discussion will feature some of Toronto’s top scientists discussing the power and perils associated with gene editing.
In the afternoon, participants will take part in a workshop focused on careers in biology with Carolyn Steele from the York University Career Centre. This will be followed by a workshop on creating images and graphics for publication that will be delivered by Laura Ana Cuciureanu, an MSc candidate.
The day concludes with a networking social at Shopsy’s.
