Christine Silversides, interim general counsel at York University, has been elected president of the Canadian Association of University Solicitors (CAUS). She assumed the new role on Sept. 1.
A nationwide association with approximately 350 members, CAUS has worked to support Canadian universities through the provision of quality legal services since 1978. Members include lawyers working in-house at universities, as well as those who support university clients from private practice law firms.
An active member of the association since 2006, Silversides previously held the role of vice-president in both 2017 and 2018. As president, she hopes to enhance communication and collaboration among university legal counsel, drawing upon the association's broad membership base of lawyers committed to sharing and developing education on university legal issues.
"My presidency represents York University taking a leadership role in addressing legal issues affecting Canadian universities," said Silversides.
In addition to her new role as president of the CAUS, Silversides acts as Chair of the Council of Ontario Universities Lawyers’ Group.
