With the federal election set to take place on Oct. 21, many students, staff and faculty at York University are giving thought to the myriad of issues, promises and platforms, and which party or candidate they should support.
To help with this important decision, York University is hosting two meet-and-greet events on Oct. 8 with candidates running in the Humber River-Black Creek and Don Valley West ridings.
The Keele Campus meet and greet will take place in Central Square from noon to 2 p.m. Candidates confirmed to be in attendance are:
- Maria Augimeri, New Democratic Party;
- Iftikhar Choudry, Conservative Party of Canada;
- Mike Schmitz, Green Party of Canada; and
- Judy Sgro, Liberal Party of Canada.
The Glendon Campus meet and greet will be held in the Centre of Excellence from noon to 2 p.m. Candidates confirmed to be in attendance are:
- Rob Oliphant, Liberal Party of Canada;
- Laurel MacDowell, New Democratic Party of Canada;
- Ian Prittie, People’s Party of Canada; and
- Yvonne Robertson, Conservative Party of Canada (a representative will attend in place of the candidate).
This will be the first opportunity to vote in a federal election for many first-year students. Information on how to register and where to vote on campus can be found on Elections Canada’s Vote on campus web page.
