October is Cyber Security Month, is your information secure?

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month and York University’s Information Security (Infosec) team is encouraging students, faculty and staff to take 10 minutes to learn more about cyber security and how they can help protect their information and digital privacy.

Cyber Security is an issue that continues to grow in importance as more of our personal information is stored online. Criminals use viruses, phishing and hacking techniques to try and obtain our personal and institutional information, and access computing resources for fraud and other criminal purposes. At the same time, cybercriminals are becoming savvier in how they try to lure people to click on a link or an infected attachment.

While York University employs a variety of measures to help protect against these threats, it is more important than ever for individuals to be aware of the issues and be an active part of protecting their information and computing resources. The Infosec team has several informative online resources that can help boost your awareness of Cyber Security.
