Filled with twists and turns, Vanier College Productions' Six Characters in Search of an Author gives audiences a glimpse into the creative process of live theatre. It runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 9
Adapted by Steve Moulds from the original Italian play by Luigi Pirandello, the metatheatrical play takes place in a private rehearsal that is interrupted by six characters who claim to be in search of an author to finish their stories.
Six Characters in Search of an Author is directed by Yasaman Nouri, assistant directed by Taryn Waldorf, and stage managed by Thulacy Sriskantha.
“Six Characters in Search of an Author employs different theatrical styles and the juxtaposition allows the audience to reflect on how we view and interpret theatre and what theatre (or live performance) means to us, the audience,” said Nouri. “I adore the mystery of the show and the journey of discovery that both the audience and the performers go on together.”
When asked what she enjoys about the show, Waldord said, “I love that the show has something unexpected around every corner – the audience is both immersed in action and on the edge of their seats. At least we hope they are.”
“As a new director, this process has been very collaborative and we have an amazing team,” she added.
The show runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at 8 p.m., Feb. 2 at 2 p.m., Feb. 7 and 8 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. On Feb. 6, there will be an accessible performance at 8 p.m. The performances take place at the Fred Thury Studio Theatres, located at 258 Vanier College, Keele Campus.
