The following is a message issued to the York University community from Teresa DuCroix, director, Health, Safety & Employee Well-Being.
North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week 2020 runs this week from May 4 to 10. NAOSH Week is an international initiative focused on highlighting the importance of health and safety in all aspects of our lives. Since 1997, NAOSH Week events and activities have been held in Canada, the United States and Mexico with the goal of focusing the attention of all individuals on injury and illness prevention in the workplace, at home and in the community.
The NAOSH Week logo, three hands forming an equilateral triangle, represents cooperation and commitment among the many partners in health and safety. In Canada, NAOSH Week is led by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), who, work in partnership with many organizations to promote NAOSH Week.
“While it is important to be vigilant about safety and injury prevention in the workplace everyday, this year NAOSH Week is particularly poignant,” says Vice-President Equity, People and Culture, Sheila-Cote-Meek. “As we navigate the uncharted waters of the COVID-19 pandemic, our thoughts are with the dedicated frontline workers who continue to support our campuses, students and community by providing essential services. Many of us are working from home right now while others have to come to work on our campuses; we are grateful to you for your continued commitment to workplace safety demonstrated everyday as you keep our university operational. We wish you safety, health and well-being as we work together in getting through this pandemic.”
The Health, Safety & Employee Well-Being (HSEWB) unit at York University recognizes the commitment to workplace health and safety among faculty and staff, and is celebrating NAOSH Week by sharing daily health, safety and wellness tips in support of our commitment to workplace safety.
