To show that the York University community will always find ways to grow and thrive, even during uncertain times, York International will celebrate the achievements of students finishing the winter semester and welcome incoming international students with a Virtual Spring Party on May 15.
In order to include those currently living and studying abroad, the celebrations will take place on Zoom at both 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Eastern Time (ET).
The party will feature performances from York graduate, poet and theatre producer Luke Reece, and Vanier College Productions, as well as a dance lesson from Zumba instructor and York psychology student Alexandria Magee.
Reece is a theatre producer, playwright, spoken word poet and arts educator. Reece is one of Toronto’s most decorated slam poets, winning multiple national titles and representing Canada at the 2019 World Cup of Poetry Slam in Paris, placing fourth. He was also featured performing for Toronto Raptor Serge Ibaka on his show ‘How Talented Are You?.’ Through his work as an artistic leader within the national arts community, Reece advocates for engaging and nuanced storytelling that challenges Canadian audiences.
Magee, who considers York a second home, is passionate about dance and enjoys sharing it with others. She strongly believes in the power of movement and the amazing benefits that dance has to offer. She currently teachers the Zumba Classes for YorkU’s MUV Online fitness classes.
Vanier College Productions is a theatre company offering York University students across all disciplines the opportunity to a perform, produce and create in a theatrical setting. Founded in 1972 by Fredrick H. Thury, Vanier College Productions is associated with York’s Vanier College. Despite social distancing measures, Vanier College Productions cast members and crew have come together to produce the first livestream of the company’s annual showcase “Breaking Curtain.”
