Looking for something interesting to do during the pandemic?
Why not tune into a free screeing of new and interesting films produced by students in the Cinema & Media Arts program at York University? They are presenting the third and final instalment of Lockdown Fest Aug. 20 to 23, with a group screening taking place Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. followed by a Q-and-A with the filmmakers.
Lockdown Fest is a a free selection of films and video works created during the pandemic lockdown by York grads, undergrads and alumni. This final screening will feature works from Sophy Romvari, Federica Foglia, Francisca Duran, Deepa Venkatesan, and Jaiden Reese.

F se Feminism (F Stands for Feminism) by Deepa Venkatesan
F se Feminism portrays a woman’s connection to her home, the body and identity as a way of engaging in conversations that help her create feminist spaces around her. A feminist space can be physical or a metaphor for one’s memory. This bilingual doc invites you to meet some women from India and hear their personal stories, opinions and everyday experiences.
Some Kind of Connection by Sohpy Romvari and Mike Thorn
Just beginning their relationship, filmmaker Sophy Romvari and writer Mike Thorm find themselves in lockdown during a global pandemic. This film is a documentation of their time spent together in Calgary, Alta.
Originate & Recompile by Federica Foglia
This film reappropriates the 1962 archival footage of Ernesto De Martino to propose a different angle of the story surrounding the woman portrayed, not from the point of view of a man who has undertaken to observe them, but from the point of view of a woman from the South of Italy.
Gift of a Dream by Francisca Duran
Digital sketches assembled from dreams gifted by dreams during the COVID-19 pandemic. Archive begins on March 10, 2020.
Something in the Dark by Jaiden Reese
A boy learns the importance of COVID-19 safety precautions through a paranormal game of Hangman.
