Each year, the York University community engages in the York Cares United Way Campaign to raise funds to help vulnerable members of the community facing crisis.
The 2020 campaign, which ran from Nov. 2 to Dec. 11, was a huge success bringing in a total of $161,643.
Even during these challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, faculty, staff and students came together to support the campaign, surpassing the $150,000 goal, and showcasing York’s commitment to creating positive change for our students and local communities.
York members responded to articles in YFile, the President’s Town Hall and Faculty council meetings with overwhelming support for the campaign, and participated in United Way’s first ever virtual physical challenge GetUP, tried the MaketheMonth.ca online simulation tool, and used their personalized links to the pledge form to donate.
Several dedicated staff worked together to plan and make this campaign possible. The campaign co-leads were Nadia Dar and Caterina Elzbet. They were assisted by Vanessa Thompson, Ashley Goodfellow Craig, Stephen Childs, Alexandra Lucchesi, Isabelle Montagnier, Mario So Gao, Sharon Elliot, Tien K.Q. Do, Karen Furlong and Marion Frankian.
“On behalf of the York Cares United Way Campaign committee, thank you to everyone at York University for supporting the campaign and our communities,” said Dar. “It is only through our collective efforts that we were able to surpass our $150,000 goal.”
Funds raised during the campaign were directed to United Way Greater Toronto in support of social services and organizations in Peel, Toronto and York Region, some of which directly impact York community members.
