A Senate-sponsored forum focused on UAP teaching priorities is planned for March 11

“The University Academic Plan and the Pandemic: Challenges and Opportunities for the Teaching and Research Priorities” is the title of an upcoming planning forum sponsored by the Senate of York University.

Members of the community are invited to attend this special Senate-sponsored planning forum, which will take place March 11 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to discuss how to best support the University Academic Plan (UAP) teaching priorities in view of the seismic events of 2020-21. It is an opportunity to focus specifically on the challenges for Experiential Education (EE), and seek novel ways to engage EE in the current context and for equitably diversifying for whom, how and what we teach. The forum will be held in a virtual format, through Zoom.

The first of two this year, the forum on March 11 will be a 1.5-hour session and rely heavily on audience participation in smaller breakout groups. Four framing questions will guide the small group discussions. Through the use of interactive polling, participants will provide feedback following the focused discussion groups to facilitate the identification of main ideas.

The second session of the forum will be held in May 2021 (date to be confirmed). It will explore the challenges and opportunities for increasing research participation and networking in this environment.

Both sessions will include an opportunity for participants to identify the supports needed for actions to be taken at the local level and to identify any important qualitative benchmarks of our success on these two UAP academic planning priorities.
