Lawyers, law graduates and legal employers from around the world will have an opportunity to connect and celebrate internationally trained talent in Canada with an event organized by York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School.
On May 27, Osgoode Professional Development (OsgoodePD) will hold its seventh annual Osgoode’s Internationally Trained Lawyers Day (OITLD) to bring together Canada’s diverse, internationally trained talent with experienced members of the global legal community to discuss tips and strategies on how to make international training stand out in the Canadian legal landscape.
This year, OITLD will be presented in a full-day virtual format that includes sessions from legal associations including the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA), the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) as well as a number of public, private and diversity association members to gain advice and insight into making an impact within Canada’s legal sector.
The morning sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. and will aim to cover “Everything you need to know about the Accreditation and Licensing Process” through three workshops:
- Discover what the process for all internationally trained lawyers hoping to get
accredited in Canada is like as well as the various types of assessments you
may receive, and options on how to complete your requirements. - Get a better understanding of the pathways to becoming a lawyer in
Ontario and the entire licensing process including the experiential
component, exams, and resources you can access throughout the process. - Learn how the LPP works: the training component and simulated work
environment, and the placements.
The morning will be followed by an hour-long lunch and networking session, and the programming will resume at 1:30 p.m. with different sessions for internationally trained lawyers and for legal employers/recruiters.
The event will wrap up with a keynote from Sahil Shoor, partner Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, at 3:30 p.m.
