Students, faculty and staff new to York University can request to have their official photo identification card (YU-card) mailed directly to their home for the fall semester. The YU-card is the only card needed when joining the York community.
The YU-card gives access to libraries, recreation facilities and meal plans. When funds are loaded on the YU-card, it can be used as a debit card at 200 points of sale across campus, as well as at select off-campus merchants. It offers savings on food, shopping, events and other discounts.
New students, faculty and staff who would like to receive their YU-card by mail can request to do so by following these steps:
- Use the Photo Upload Service and upload your photo and supporting documents.
- Wait for notification of a YU-card photo approval in your @my.yorku.ca or @yorku.ca email account. Confirmation can take three to five business days depending on volume.
- Once you receive your confirmation, submit your YU-card mail request.
Mail delivery of your card may take two to three weeks. Those who require a YU-card earlier should visit the YU-card website for information on how to obtain the card in person.
Please note: The YU-card Office is not responsible for incorrect addresses, lost or late deliveries. If a card must be replaced for any reason, a $30 replacement fee will be charged for a new card that has been printed and dispatched.
To protect cardholders’ privacy and security, YU-cards will only be mailed to addresses that are on file with University Records and within Canada. If you are a student, confirm or update your address here before submitting your mail request form. If you are staff or faculty, confirm or update your address here before submitting your mail request form.
This mail delivery option is available to first-time YU-card applicants only. All renewal and/or replacement cards must be done in person at the YU-card Office.
For more information, visit the YU-card website.
Note for faculty and staff: The YU-card is not pre-programmed with door access. Visit Community Safety to learn more about getting door access set up on your YU-card once you receive it.
