Five individuals with affiliations to York University are included in a list curated by Maclean’s magazine to profile 50 Canadians who are “forging paths, leading the debate and shaping how we think and live.”
Released annually, “The Power List” reflects on the biggest influencers of the year.
“As in 2021, our ranking hews toward good-faith actors pursuing positive change, even if their approaches, or their notions of positive, are not universally shared,” explains the article, published Feb. 10, which can be found here.
The list’s influencers with ties to York University are:
Rachel Notley (No. 16) an alumna (LLB ’90 Osgoode), for her contributions to provincial politics in Alberta.
Jagmeet Singh (No. 17, as part of “Opposition Leaders”) an alumnus (LLB ’05 Osgoode), for his contributions leading a minority party in Canada.
Armine Yalnizyan (No. 22) an alumna (BA ’83 Glendon), for her ability to analyze Canada’s uncertain economic reality during the pandemic.
Lisa Raitt (No. 23 with Anne McLelland) an alumna (LLB ’96 Osgoode), for her contributions co-leading the Coalition for a Better Future and its call for an ambitious economic vision that looks beyond election cycles.
Murray Sinclair (No. 30 with Niigaan Sinclair) an honorary alumnus (LLD ’15 Osgoode), for his contributions overseeing high-profile negotiations over federal compensation to Indigenous children.
